Expanding
its already substantial livestock and agricultural holdings in South
America, the Tsakos Group has since the 1980s been actively involved in
the development of Uruguay's young agroforestry industry. With first
plantings reaching maturity, the Group is also engaged in down-river
transportation of the logs and their onward export worldwide.
In a joint venture with Mitsui of Japan the Tsakos Group is operating a
woodchip factory in Montevideo.
Biomass Energy Plant - Tacuerembo, Uruguay.
Tsakos Group with Uruguayan partners produces and sells about 10 MWH of energy to the Uruguayan Electricity Company (UTE), using wooden chips and rice rinds for fuel.
Wind Energy Farms Develoment.
Tsakos Group with Uruguayan partners in a joint venture with EnBW Energie Baden-Wurttemberger of Germany are in business to establish, develop and operate Wind Farms at various locations in Uruguay.
